jewish federationBy BERNIE BELLAN Following upon the release of information about “designated funds” by the Jewish Foundation in our last (Aug. 29) issue, we are now able to provide readers with information about “designated” allocations by the Jewish Federation.

As we noted in our story about allocations that are to be made to the 12 beneficiary agencies of the Federation in our July 18 issue, a total of $2,715,000 is to be allocated to those agencies. Altogether the Combined Jewish Appeal raised $5.77 million in the 2017 fiscal year. In the July 18 story we noted that another $575,000 is to be allocated to Jewish Federations of Canada-UIA, and just over $1 million is to be allocated “in designated funds to local organizations, the Federation and overseas needs.”
We wondered whether, since the Jewish Foundation had been willing to share information about “designated funds”, the Jewish Federation might also be willing to share information about “designated” allocations. Elaine Goldstine, CEO of the Federation, agreed to provide that information to us.
It should also be noted that anyone who donates at least $18,000 to the Combined Jewish Appeal has the right to designate where their donation should go.
Following is a list of designated allocations that will be made by the Jewish Federation this year:
