  • Sunday, Nov. 16, 6 Winnipeg cantors got together to re-create a famous cantors' concert held in 1985 here. The 6 cantors this year were, in order: Gerry Daien, Michael Eskin, Len Udow, Richard Yaffe, Tracy Kasner Greaves, and Annibal Maas, with accompanists Shayla Fink and Eric Vickar

  • Alumni of Chai from as long ago as 1964 - when the Sarah Sommer Chai Folk Ensemble first began - gave a thrilling performance June 8 at the Regent Street Casino. With over 100 dancers, singers & musicians on stage at various times, it was an evening for the ages.

  • Bonnie & George Bricker will be holding a "healing service" for their 33-year-old son Reid, who vanished Oct. 24 and is presumed dead. The service will be held Sunday, Jan. 10 at 3:30 pm at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue.

  • Israeli journalist Lia Tarachansky was in Winnipeg recently to attend a showing of her 2013 film "On the Side of the Road". The film looks at Israelis' reluctance to come to terms with some of the truths behind the 1948 War of Independence.

  • On Oct. 29 I (Bernie Bellan) visited Ramallah to meet with Sam Bahour, who has been writing about Palestinian issues for The Jewish Post & News for the past 2 12/ years. In this 3 minute interview Bahour gives his assessment that Palestinians would prefer not a "two-state" solution, but a "one-state" solution in which they are given equal rights with Israelis.

  • Len Udow - and friends - gave a fabulous concert Nov. 28 at Temple Shalom (with the Friday Night Live Band; Dan Donahue; Susan Israel; and special guest Tracy Kasner Greaves)

  • On March 20, 2017, B'nai Brith Canada filed a complaint with Montreal police regarding a sermon made by Sheikh Muhammad bin Musa Al Nasr at the Dar al-Arqam mosque in Montreal. In the sermon, recited on Dec. 23, 2016, he described Jews as “the most evil of mankind” and “human demons,” and quoted a passage from the Quran that calls for killing Jews.
